Fashion in Africa was launched on 5 May 2006. The project has generated a huge amount of publicity due to a comprehensive program aimed at creating awareness.

* The public's feedback pointed to the world-class quality of the event and their high expectations of the next event.
* Miss South Africa, Nokuthula Sithole and the Nokia Face of Africa winner, Kaone Kairo, were among the top class models who have modeled the designs at the pilot event.
* A huge amount of sponsorship and other contributions were obtained, which is unusual for a pilot event. The value of the sponsorship and contributions obtained is estimated at a total of more than R 3 million.
